Building Aura Surface Works While Living with ADHD

People sometimes assume ADHD means you can't focus.

For me, it's almost the opposite.

If something genuinely interests me, I can spend hours researching it, refining it and trying to make it better. The challenge isn't a lack of motivation—it's directing that energy toward the right things.

Building Aura Surface Works has shown me both sides of that.

The Strengths

When I become interested in something, I want to understand it completely.

That's why I've spent countless hours learning about paint correction, ceramic coatings, polishing techniques, products, lighting, photography, website design and search engine optimization.

Some people might think it's excessive.

I call it caring.

I don't want to simply offer a service. I want to understand why one polish finishes better than another, why one coating performs differently, or why one website ranks higher than the next.

Curiosity has become one of my biggest strengths.

The Challenges

Running a business isn't only about detailing.

It's bookkeeping.

Taxes.

Scheduling.

Invoices.

Marketing.

Phone calls.

Website updates.

Social media.

Sometimes my brain wants to jump between all of them at once.

Other days I can spend an entire afternoon perfecting one small detail that most people would never even notice.

Learning when "good enough" is actually good enough has been one of the hardest lessons.

Progress Over Perfection

One thing I've realized is that businesses aren't built overnight.

They're built one customer at a time.

One review.

One referral.

One polished vehicle.

One late evening spent improving a website.

One blog post.

Looking back, it's easy to focus on how much work is still left to do.

Looking forward, I try to remember how far Aura Surface Works has already come.

Why I Started

I didn't start Aura Surface Works because I wanted to own a business.

I started it because I genuinely enjoy restoring neglected surfaces and seeing the reaction when someone gets their vehicle back.

The business grew from that passion.

Every vehicle is another opportunity to improve my craft.

Every customer teaches me something new.

Every challenge makes the business a little stronger.
