Paint Correction Isn't Just a Service — It's Why I Started Aura Surface Works

If there's one part of detailing that never gets old for me, it's paint correction.
Watching dull, swirled, neglected paint slowly transform into something that looks deep, rich and alive again is incredibly satisfying. Every vehicle tells a different story, and every correction requires a different approach. That's what keeps it interesting.
At Aura Surface Works, paint correction isn't about chasing unrealistic perfection. It's about restoring your vehicle to the best version of itself while preserving as much of the original paint as possible.
What Is Paint Correction?
Paint correction is the process of safely removing imperfections from your vehicle's clear coat through machine polishing.
Depending on the condition of the paint, this may include removing:
Swirl marks
Light scratches
Water spots
Oxidation
Buffer trails and holograms
Paint haze
Minor wash-induced defects
Unlike products that temporarily fill scratches, proper paint correction permanently removes a small amount of damaged clear coat to level the surface. When performed correctly, the improvement isn't temporary—it lasts.
Every Vehicle Is Different
One thing I've learned after years of polishing vehicles is that no two jobs are ever the same.
Some paints are incredibly soft and correct quickly. Others fight you every step of the way. A heavily oxidized boat, a black pickup that's been through automatic car washes for years, or a freshly painted classic all require different techniques, different pads, different compounds and plenty of patience.
There isn't a one-size-fits-all process.
That's why I inspect every vehicle before deciding on the best approach rather than reaching for the same products every time.
It's About More Than Just Removing Scratches
People often ask me if paint correction removes scratches.
Sometimes it does.
Sometimes it dramatically reduces them.
Sometimes the safest answer is to leave a deeper scratch alone because removing it would require sacrificing too much clear coat.
I believe in preserving your paint whenever possible. My goal is always to achieve the greatest improvement while making decisions that protect the long-term health of your finish.
Honest recommendations will always come before chasing numbers on a paint depth gauge.
The Difference Is in the Details
Paint correction isn't simply running a machine over the paint.
It's paying attention to the small things.
Checking the paint under multiple light sources.
Changing polishing combinations when necessary.
Cleaning pads frequently.
Working section by section.
Knowing when to stop.
Those details are often what separate an average finish from one that genuinely turns heads in the sunlight.
The Perfect Foundation for Ceramic Coating
One of the biggest mistakes people make is applying a ceramic coating to paint that hasn't been corrected.
A ceramic coating protects whatever is underneath it.
If swirl marks are still there, they'll be sealed beneath the coating.
That's why every ceramic coating package at Aura Surface Works begins with proper paint preparation. Once the paint has been corrected, the ceramic coating locks in the finish and helps preserve the results for years to come.

Why I Love Doing This
There's a moment near the end of every correction when I pull the vehicle into the sunlight for the first time.
The paint has more depth.
The reflections become sharper.
Colours look richer.
That moment never gets old.
It's why I enjoy this work so much.
Whether it's a daily driver, a weekend sports car, a motorcycle, a boat, or a classic that's been part of the family for decades, I genuinely enjoy bringing neglected finishes back to life.
If you're looking for professional paint correction in Ottawa, I'd love the opportunity to show you what your vehicle's paint is truly capable of looking like.
